AT for students with emotional & behavioral disorders
Hey all -
I'm working on developing a presentation on AT to support students with emotional & behavioral disorders. Concurrently, looking to add some of these devices in our library. I've found a few items including the MotivAider and WatchMinder, but wondering if anyone has other suggestions? I'm looking for mid-to-higher tech ideas (I think we're all set on goal charts, behavior plans, etc.)

Hi Lori,
The Wyoming Assistive Technology Resource offers excellent insights from past ECHO in Assistive Technology sessions. Here are a couple of amazing speakers and their considerations on assistive technology:
- Cassie Frost discusses the role of executive functioning in behavior: Behavior: The Role Executive Functioning Plays. https://uwyo3.instructure.com/courses/336/pages/april-21-2022-behavior-the-role-executive-functioning-plays?module_item_id=64881
- Karen Janowski explores technology to support executive functions, focusing on self-regulation and emotional control: Technology to Support Executive Functions, Session One: Self-regulation/Emotional Control. https://uwyo3.instructure.com/courses/336/pages/april-7-2022-technology-to-support-executive-functions-session-one-self-regulation-slash-emotional-control?module_item_id=64350
Additionally, I am fervent believer that behavior often stems from communication challenges or a lack thereof. For more on this, check out:
- Terri Wofford and Rachel Freedman on maximizing communication through best practices from applied behavior analysis and speech-language pathology: Maximizing Communication: Best Practices from Applied Behavior Analysis and Speech-Language Pathology. https://uwyo3.instructure.com/courses/330/pages/december-10-2020-maximizing-communication-best-practices-from-applied-behavior-analysis-and-speech-language-pathology?module_item_id=29412
I hope this is helpful!
Best,

Hi Lori,
We put together some kits (rolling backpack) of sensory items. Not high tech but I have loaned them out for academies, field trips and for schools to try. We were aiming for more the post high school group of students with disabilities. Thanks! PKM
